March Memories

I can’t believe March has come and gone. March was my birthday month and good googly-moogly was it a good month.
A few highlights

  • A trip to Sun Valley, Idaho for a ski trip with the Little Shredders and my family. My little brother proposed to his girlfriend on the trip, so I got to come home with a new sister! Yay!

  • A trip to NYC for work. Is it just me or is the energy of spending time IN REAL LIFE with your clients and your team just the absolute best? I got to take a Blade Helicopter to the airport, that was sick (Blade > Uber).

  • A few trips around town to do things like: see Hannah Berner with my bestie, meet up with podcast friends turned real friends, and even organize my first Girls Night Out since having le bebe.

  • A few gloriously sunny stroller walks with Charlie, le aforementioned bebe

  • A great date night with Ronnie at our one of our fav local restaurants, followed by our local standup club’s open mic night, where we laughed at the tremendously bad display of standup comedy with our good friends and neighbors. I think we all trauma-bonded. It was so bad.

  • A great date with myself at the horse-stables. From my earliest memories, I’ve always been obsessed with horses. Moving out to the burbs, living near so many stables was actually a big factor in where we decided to settle in. I’m so excited to spend more and more time with horses.

Products I tried (and loved)

Gloci – A beauty routine you can drink. It’s a daily beauty hydrator that helps you glow from the inside out. Oh, and I am a proud investor in the brand! So proud of the founder and all that it took to get this out in the world.

Homecourt – The best smelling homecare products you’ll ever get your hands on. Courteney Cox co-founded this company with Sarah Jahnke, who was so kind to come on Allowlist Podcast to talk about the brand and her journey building alongside an A List celeb.

Armra Colostrum – I’m in the ugly post-partum phase of losing all of my hair, so I’ve been taking this supplement to see if I can keep some of it. Among other insane immunity benefits, colostrum promotes hair follicle growth, nourishes the scalp, and restore the hair microbiomes, plus for skin it reactivates collagen production, reverses age-related changes, and improve skin radiance.

Books I read and loved

Same as Ever – A Guide to What Never Changes, by Morgan Housel – Morgan Housel also wrote The Psychology of Money, one of my favorite personal finance books. The context for Same as Ever is this: In a world that feels more volatile, more fast-paced, more ever-changing than ever, what are the fundamentals we can fall back on, like gravity, to ground us back in reality? What NEVER changes? In 1000 parallel universes, what would be true in every single one of them?

Reading this was as grounding as taking three deep breaths while snuggling closely with the one you love. If you’re looking for some strong, stable, peaceful energy right now, look no further.

Worthy by Jamie Kern Lima – Jamie Kern Lima also wrote Believe It! A story about her journey from Denny’s Waitress to Founder of It Cosmetics which was acquired by L’Oreal for over $1B. Rumor has it, Jamie walked away with just shy of $500M from the transaction. After her massive exit, her story and her fortune opened doors she never believed would open for her. But here’s what she learned: if doors open, but you don’t feel Worthy of walking through them, there’s no amount of money in the world that can make you feel like you belong in the rooms on the other side. This deep dive into self-worth, what it is, how we can cultivate it, and why it is the multiplier for our fulfillment in life and career, is her answer.

Reading this was like spending a long weekend in Sedona with your best friend (you know the one that loves you, supports you, knows you and sometimes hugs you for an uncomfortably long amount of time because she knows you need it?). Imagine you are with her, in Sedona going hiking, going to the spa, drinking green juice and letting the vortexes re-magnetize your internal compass. That’s this book.

Five Principles of Parenting by Dr Aliza Pressman – Dr. Aliza Pressman is a developmental psychologist with nearly two decades of experience working with families and the health care providers who care for them. She helps people like Drew Barrymore, Jennifer Garner, and Martha Stewart raise their kids and grandkids to be good humans. She’s got a really pragmatic vibe and I feel like her parenting podcast, Raising Good Humans, has become one of my favorites in my weekly rotation because I am always learning something.

Reading this was like going back to school to learn about the most important job I’ll ever have. The notes doc on my phone is so full of notes you’d think that I was studying for finals. The crazy part? About ⅓ of my notes apply to how I can be a better parent to myself, about ⅓ of my notes apply to how I can be a better parent to Charlie, and about ⅓ of my notes apply to how I can be a better parent to everyone else in my life (my hubs, my team, my own parents, etc). You don’t need to be a parent to read this and get insane value out of it. And that is the magic of the pragmatic Dr Aliza Pressman.
